Admissions

Entry to De La Salle

Providing education and care for boys aged 3 to 18, there are several common points of entry to the school, though you are welcome to apply to transfer at any point.

While secondary school officially begins in Year 7, we offer a full ‘Transition Year’ in Year 6, to ease the process of adapting to Secondary School for parents and students alike.

If you have any enquiries about any of our open events, or should you be unable to attend, please do contact our Admissions Officer or fill in the form below. Our Admissions Officer will organise an opportunity to visit the College, to find out about our wonderful school environment from either our Primary Headteacher or from our Assistant Headteacher of Secondary.

Common Entry Points
  • Nursery: Pre-Reception (entry aged 3 by 31st August)
  • Key Stage 1: Reception (entry aged 4 by 31st August)
  • Key Stage 2: Year 3
  • Key Stage 2: Year 6 (Transition Year)
  • Key Stage 3: Year 7
  • Key Stage 5: Sixth Form

The Application Process

1

Visit Us

We recommend all families attend our annual Open Day event in the autumn term to get a first-hand experience of the College.

2

Meet the Admissions Team

All families are also welcome to have a private tour of the school while lessons are in progress. Tours are given by a member of the Senior Management Team, who will be able to answer any questions you have regarding the College.

3

Register

To register your son please complete our online registration form and pay a £50 registration fee (payment details below). Parents may register their son at any age. Please Note: The completion of a form and the payment of the £50 fee do not guarantee a place.

Things To Know

  • We request full disclosure of any Special Educational Needs at the point where we are ready to start the Admissions process. Where relevant, a meeting is scheduled with a member of our Senior Management Team and our Head of Special Educational Needs. In some cases, where specific educational or behavioural needs have been identified, trial periods may be offered.
  • Our Head of College makes the final decision in respect of an Offer of Place, based on our due diligence procedures to ensure the College is appropriately equipped to best support the needs of the child. Acceptance of that place is dependent upon return of the Acceptance Form and £900 deposit for all places in the Primary and Secondary school by a specified deadline.
  • Once an Offer of Place is accepted, we encourage you to stay in touch before your son officially joins us. You are very welcome to join our Open Events or return to tour the school again before your son officially joins us. We look forward to you joining the De La Salle community.

Admissions FAQs

How do I register?

Registration can be completed through the admissions tab of our website. You will be required to complete an online form and pay a £50 registration fee, either online or by providing a cheque to the College.

Please contact the College Bursar (bursar@dls-jersey.co.uk) for all enquiries in respect of available College bursaries.

Will my son in Primary gain automatic entry to the Secondary school?

All boys in the care of De La Salle in the Primary School have an automatic place in Year 7.

When should I register my son for Primary School?

We have key entry points into Early Years (Pre Reception and Reception), Year 3 and Year 6. We do encourage early registration as our year groups tend to fill up quickly.

When should I register my son for Year 7 entry?

We start the admissions process to the Secondary in the Lent (Spring) term, four terms prior to the start of Year 7, while the boys are in Year 5. We therefore encourage prospective families to visit our Open Day event in September each year, while the boys are in Year 4 or 5. It is sensible, therefore, to register your son by the end of the Advent (autumn) term of Year 5, at least five terms before the start of Year 7.

Can my son join after Year 7?

We are able to facilitate entry after September of Year 7, but admissions depends on the availability of spaces, and over recent years we have remained full in Key Stage 3.

We are unable to accept boys into the College after the autumn term of Year 9 and before Year 12 as all boys commence their GCSE courses at the end of Year 8, and it is not possible for boys to join those courses at a later stage.

We do welcome applications into our Sixth Form for A level or BTEC qualifications, depending on availability of places.

What does De La Salle mean when it describes itself as an ‘inclusive school’?

De La Salle College has no entry examinations and caters for students of all ability levels. Our thriving teaching and learning environments supports all students to strive for excellence and to reach their full potential.

We have a number of students with Special Educational Needs and provide a permanent teaching assistant for our year 6 students while they attend their lessons on the secondary site, and additional teaching assistant support in some lessons. We do not have the resources to provide 1-2-1 support for the boys in our care, and we require complete disclosure of all SEN information as part of the admissions process so that our decision in respect of an Offer of Place is supported by the knowledge that our school is fully and appropriately equipped to ensure all needs can be catered for.

We establish high expectations for behaviour at all times. Our due diligence procedures, as part of the admissions process, are designed to assure our duty of care to all boys and their parents at De La Salle, and to ensure the learning environment remains uncompromised by the chosen behaviours of those who join.
